Pastel Genius

Laura Brown told me to carry on with my pastel ways.

And so I did.

I'm not big into labels, but "genius" is one I am happy to accept.
(also gorgeous, brilliant, and utterly charming, if anyone has those lying about)

Especially if it's on an adorable pink sweater.

these. shoes.

I originally was going to wear them with my first prom dress, but when it was passed over, they didn't get their spot in the limelight.
Now they're back in the sunshine.
They're super comfortable and have the cute front completely covered.
Also, so. so. bright.

I love it.

That last photo is obviously not me.

If you thought it was, go meet with an opthamologist, you may be blind.

That is, in fact, my little brother.
He just happened to be looking rather cute today instead of his usual criminally insane tendency.
I probably just jinxed it, I think he's putting legos in my shoe.

Ain't no rest for the big sisters.

xx,
Justina

My dance moves are on point.

Not actual point, we've been over my ballet flunking.
But still, I'm giving the 80's a run for their money.

Still obsessed with this sweater.
forever and always baby

It is huge. It's clever. I love it.
I also feel a bit like a bat, which is always a plus.

Can we just take a moment and recognize that it is raining?
That alone is an abnormality in California, but in MAY?
Unheard of.

It does however, make for excellent sweater weather,
excellent because I have lots of sweaters.

And I could actually look in the camera without blinding myself via the sun.

Wear sunglasses kids.

xx,
Justina

ps. dance dance like it's the last last night of your life life

Contained Culture

the absolute best jumper you've ever seen in your entire life c.o madame allsorts

let me address your first question: no filters.

You'd be astounded at how moving curtains can change lighting.

let me address the second: you can buy this incredibly clever jumper here.

if you haven't figured out why it's clever, read it again.

get it

get it

 wintour

like

winter

now, moving on.

I have absolutely no idea what is going on in these photos.

It just happened, ok?

This sweater, and two very different conversations about the same thing inspired me.

Let's get deep like a swimming pool.

Our culture is immense. There's so many little things that have shaped it. And yet, there are always pieces that are contained. We keep ourselves in little boxes, apparently on purpose. I'm talking mental and physical boxes. When was the last time you just went outside and explored a new place? Find a path and beat it. We insist that certain things have to be the way they are because that's the way they are. We block ourselves off from things we may love for fear of expanding "too far". Can that even happen? We've allowed old things to stay in their place, never even contemplating change. It's insane. It's past time to shake things up. Make noise. Paint things bright colors. Go talk to the weird kid. Ask questions. Take strange photos.

Ok, I better stop myself now before this turns into a middle school pep rally.

My point is
do what you need to do to be who you are.

Yes, I got all that from a sweater.

That's just how I roll.

xx,
Justina

ps. Madame Allsorts, the babe who designed the several times aforementioned sweater? She's in my Really Cool People You Wish You Were Best Friends With Club. Besides designing stuff you want to live in and making super hoardable jewelry she makes music you actually enjoy having permanently etched on your brain. Go listen to it. You can send me a thank you cupcake later.

Justina x Laura

 |lauras insta|

I don't know how many of you know this story, but if it were not for an issue of Harpers Bazaar, this blog wouldn't exist.
Think about that.
One page, in one issue sparked the flame that turned into the Fire of Rome this is.

I read a piece Tavi wrote for them, and (in typical Justina fashion) thought, "Oh, I can do thattttt!".

That was three years ago
So when I got to talk to the absolutely brilliant Laura Brown, Harpers Bazaar editor, youtube host, and real life Australian,
I. freaked. out.

Full circle people, full circle.

We had a wonderful conversation, full of laughter and me frantically scribbling all the genius things that were said.

How would you describe your job in three words?
Professional. Jazz. Hander.
You got to meet Karl Lagerfeld! How was that?

Karl is awesome. It was actually funny because he shoots a lot of stuff [for Harpers Bazaar] but I had never met him. We kept missing each other. Then I just happened to be in Paris for Fashion Week, and the opportunity arrived. He walked in a half hour late,  and said "I need to fix my hair." Then he called me to look at his bathroom "My bathroom is chic.". It really is. So then we talked, and I hugged him. I really have no boundries with that man. I ♡ Karl 4Ever.
Ten minutes to pack for Fashion week, what makes the cut?
Oh gosh that's a hard one. Ok, lets do this.

- Two pairs of Manolos, my black ones and my tan ones.
- two pairs of jeans, a junky pair and my favorites fromt his brand Frame that I am obsessed with.
- as many fun shirts as I can cram in, I love Isabel Marant
- my favorite Equipment shirt, it's a great way to quickly pull together a respectable outfit
- Some light tailored jackets, I love my Acne ones, theres a black one and my lucky one, which is printed with cash.
- a pair of black trousers
- I know this is sounding like an ad for acne, but my Acne tux.

Who was your favorite interview with?

Well Hillary Clinton, because she's so incredible, and I didn't want to look like an idiot, but then I walked in and got possessed by someone who knew what she was talking about. Then there was Oprah, and you know, it's like "OPRAH" with angels singing and stuff, but she's really down to earth and sweet. I love Oprah. I also interviewed Nicole and Paris way back. Nicole was great, and Paris was.....Paris.
Whose wardrobe would you be completely willing to swap yours for?
Well if I could fit in it, Kiernan Shipka. She's got amazing vintage stuff, and rotates her wardrobe, which I just think is so chic. If it were summer always, I'd want Kate Hudson's, she lives the summer life year round. If it were winter, and I had about six more hours in my day to put myself together, Dita Von Teese would be my go-to.
Dream Interview subject for The Look?
Jimmy Fallon. I think he's so funny, and he'd definitely have a laugh with it.  Also Giorgio Armani. It'd be hilarious because he understands English, but insists on using a translator.  Who would you you want to see me interview?

me: Valentino.

Laura: Like, the designers or The Man.

me: The Man.

Laura: I actually have a funny story about that.

Lauras Story:

I was invited to a Valentino dinner in Paris for Paris Fashion Week (which I generally don't go to, but you know, Valentino). So I went through the [Harpers Bazaar] closet to borrow some things, and I had this gorgeous red dress that was such a cliche for a Valentino dinner, and this crazy leather jumpsuit. I was like "You know what, I'll take it." Then at the last moment, I decided to wear it. At the dinner, Giancarlo came up to me and said "You look so chic." Then a friend of mine told me that I looked like I was going to Anvil, which is this gay club here. I felt like I was going to save Gotham.

Me: that is the single best story ever.

Any final wisdom?

Where In The World Was Justina?

I'll never tell.
Or at least, not yet.
But I promise you that when I tell you, it will be so completely worth the wait, you'll forget how much you want to hit me with a shoe right now.

What did y'all get up to while I was gone?

It'll be the best night of your life

...or at least that's what I told my friends when I coerced them to ditch the typical prom in favor of In n Out and Ironman 3 with me.

and you know what?

It was awesome.

In n Out is always good (Come to Cali, eat our burgers, you'll never leave.)
Ironman 3 was amazing (I mean...Ironman)

and getting to wear this gorgeous dress I picked up (when I say picked up, I mean I fought this woman with hideous acrylic nails who would. not. give. it. up.) at a local thriftstore.

pro. score.

It was the perfect evening, full of wonderfully random conversations, insane giggling, me explaining how I trip on air, laughing at people who stared at the incredibly well dressed group of teens, and making plans for summer.

Everything a good prom should be.

Also, I discovered that you really can blind people with glitter.

fun fact.

xx,
Justina

ps. I'd love to see your prom photos

Sparkle Toes

 #teenvogue
shoes: c.o bc footwear|dress: thrifted|necklace c.o wonderland wishes|sunnies: c.o zerouv
I don't know why, but these shoes make me feel like Taylor Swift.

There. I said it. It's out.

I think it's because they aren't just sneakers, and they aren't just glittery, they've got this cool lace up thing happening that is very oxford-ish. And you know who wears a lot of oxfords? Taylor Swift.

Makes sense now, doesn't it?

Scary stuff.

They're also dead comfortable, which has inspired a lot of skipping. Just thought you'd like to know. Skipping is a lot more fun than yoga.

I'm not really sure what's happening in this outfit, but I know it's good.

My all pink Casio? Good.
My blue plastic sunnies that are a throwback to my preschool days? Good.
My sparkly pink "Cute" necklace (just in case you weren't clear)? Good.

All good.

I've hijacked another neighbors yard in the name of a post. I think this is what they call a "gateway crime". Next I'll be stealing their cars to drive to Fashion Week. It's all a matter of time.

Speaking of time, next week is my last week of school! holllaaaaaa

I should probably go finish the 103803290329038 projects I'd rather not do.

Someone come find me in 48 hours,
I'll be the sparkly shoes sticking out from under the house of biology papers.

Justina

Your music might kill me though

 This is my jam.

I ahhhhdore Fitzgerald, but am still rather unclear on my feelings about The Great Gatsby.
I mean, gorgeous technicolor shooting with beautiful original costumes, (there's nothing sexy like excess) but all the people in them seem a bit...sad. In a boring way, not a ooh this could be rather interesting in a Lana Del Rey music video way.

Speaking of the music,  I am still not talking to Beyonce ever since that horrendous and tragic excuse of a cover of "Back To Black" they dared to put in this film came to light. I can't even deal with that.

Pink a boo, I see you

sweater: asos|earrings: c.o stella&bow|necklace:c.o eclectic eccentricities

pink and purple, pink and purple, pink and purple, pink and purple

Sometimes, my hair just gets it right

Then my nails looked like they were matched to my sweater by fashion angels,
 and my eyeliner looks good
and it's just a really good day.
I found out Rex and I are in an ad for Don't Feed The Bears in Company Magazine UK (can someone pick me up a copy of that?) and got to have possibly the greatest conversation I've ever held with Laura Brown (look here soon for the sum of that). And that all went down before 10 am.

skiddly

I'm making "skiddly" a thing. If Eloise can say it, so can I.

How do you guys feel about more beauty (obviously I'm always a beauty but y'know what I mean) posts rather than those spaz shots we call outfit posts?
I'm off, spending the weekend in a forest full of fairies.

Justina
